Why I Run These Workshops

When I wrote The Gift That Gives Back, I wanted children to see themselves not as passive observers of an adult problem, but as young changemakers who can help protect our planet and give something back to it.

Isha, the protagonist of the story, may be frightened by thunder and flooding, but she is not helpless. She asks questions, discovers why the trees around her are disappearing and decides to act. Her story shows children that courage can begin with curiosity, and change can begin with one small action.

That idea is at the heart of my workshops. Through storytelling, conversation, creative activities and simple science experiments, children discover how nature looks after us and begin to think about how we can give back to nature in return.

Giving back does not have to mean doing something big. It could be planting and caring for a tree, protecting a local green space, saving water, recycling, reducing waste, looking after wildlife or encouraging their family to make a small change together. Children are encouraged to come up with their own ideas and choose an action that feels achievable to them.

At the end of the session, each child makes their own Promise to Nature Badge turning what they have learned into something they can take home and put into action.

My hope is that every child leaves knowing: you are never too young to care, to have a voice, to give back and to create change.

I offer interactive workshops for schools, libraries, museums, festivals and community organisations, primarily for children aged 5–9, with parents and carers warmly welcomed at family sessions.
